Buckmore Park Summer Championship Rd 4

Owner Driver 16/07/06

As with last month, the sun was out in full force today topping 30 degrees once more for a beautiful race day; who said global warming was a bad thing? The heats went seemingly incident free with no major hold-ups to the day and everybody seemed to enjoy the superb racing on hand throughout the day.

The opening final was that of the Junior TKM and Mini Max split grid. In the Mini Max James Doherty in the final maintained his winning streak of the opening 2 heats, leading from start to finish, taking the win by a hairs width from a rapidly progressing Tom Ingram coming from 5th on the grid, and Jack Marshall only 3 tenths behind, capitalising on a fantastic start, losing second to Tom with 3 laps remaining. Elliot Rice finished 4th taking the final trophy in the Mini Max whilst Danny Osborne completed a perfect day by winning the final, 5 seconds clear of Sean Babington.

The Europas were next; Steven Martorana took a perfect 1st from perfect heats in a perfect season and David Roberts took the final trophy for 2nd.

Next was a 17 strong Rotax Max final. Lee Jenner followed his strong performances from earlier in the day and led from the go to take the flag 2.5 seconds clear of Harry Cockill who had managed to successfully jump Kit Brough on the opening lap. Kit had a glimmer of second at the half way point for a lap but Harry quickly retook the silver from Kit of lap 7 in an exciting battle. David McDonald was able to take advantage of a costly mistake by Dayle Matthews, slipping into 4th as Dayle plummeted from a quick scrap for 3rd with Harry down to 7th. The 5th place trophy was awarded to Thomas Wells for his impressive progression from 10th on the grid to 5th by the 4th lap where he remained. Tim Gladman collected the novice trophy.

Cadets would be our entertainment for the next 10 minutes. As with the Honda Cadets heats, Jack Aitken dominated the final, bringing it home 1st with Harrison Scott all over his back for the whole race, finishing only 2 tenths behind. This was a familiar site from the day as Jack and Harrison had been 1-2 in every heat and the final! Similarly, Ashlee Whiteman and Sam Vanderpump in the Comer Cadets would finish 1-2 in all the preceding heats as well as the final where they took the flag 15 seconds clear of Alfonso Skriczka and Alex Thomas.

Arguably the most exciting final of the day was the Junior Max. Luciano Bacheta had been progressing through the day finishing 3rd 2nd then 1st in his heats and completed the day on the top step of the podium but only just! Kenneth Andrews was all over Luciano like a rabbit on heat. Despite a less than desirable start Kenneth got back on the pace and challenged for the win throughout the second half of the race and finished less than a tenth behind Luciano. With exception to heat 3, Sam Hart’s 1st and 2nd places had set him up for a front row start in the final which he would use for all it’s worth jumping to an early lead Luciano, who claimed the top spot back after Sam led for a couple of laps. Sam then found himself in a bit of trouble with Kenneth who despite initially dropping down to 4th came back past Sam for 2nd. 4th went to Luke Hooper who made rapid progress through the first half of the race, coming from 8th. Luke Edwards took the top novice trophy, finishing in 13th, three places ahead of fellow novice Marius Liatukas.

Rotax 177 didn’t quite go according to plan for Dave Wooder who had easily won all the heats leading up to the final but dropped down to 3rd initially, and then struggled to catch back up to the front, squeezing passed a storming Mark Chantler with only 2 laps remaining. The rest of the pack came home 20 seconds behind Dave and Mark!

Joe Morrison took an easy win in the TKM final, following suit from the heats. Matthew Parr came in 3 seconds adrift; taking the silver after a good start boosted him up from 3rd on the grid ahead of Mark Palmer.
